Why A Deep Clean and Seasonal Organisation Makes Sense

Clothing and home accessories often pile up when we keep everything out all year round. This creates clutter and makes it harder to find what you need. The seasonal rule means dividing your wardrobe and accessories into two groups:

  • Spring and Summer items: lighter fabrics, bright colours, and breathable materials.

  • Autumn and Winter items: heavier fabrics, darker colours, and warmer layers.

When the seasons change, store away the off-season items in labelled boxes or vacuum bags. This frees up space and keeps your home feeling lighter and more organised.

How to Organise Your Wardrobe by Season

  1. Empty your wardrobe completely. Lay out all your clothes so you can see everything.

  2. Sort items into two piles: spring/summer and autumn/winter.

  3. Assess each item: donate or recycle anything you no longer wear.

  4. Clean your wardrobe interior before putting clothes back.

  5. Store off-season clothes in clear, labelled containers or vacuum bags to save space.

  6. Arrange current season clothes by type or colour for easy access.

This system works well for shoes, hats, scarves, and other accessories too.

Decorating Your Home for Each Season

Your home’s decor can reflect the seasons just like your wardrobe. Use bright, fresh colours and light fabrics in spring and summer. Think floral or geometric design cushions, light curtains, and fresh plants. When autumn and winter arrive, swap these for warmer tones like burnt orange, mauve, deep reds, and cosy textures such as fleece, chunky wool or velvet throws.

Tips for Seasonal Home Decoration

  • Store away off-season cushions, throws, faux stems and flowers, and table linens in labelled boxes.

  • Use scented candles or diffusers with seasonal fragrances like citrus for summer and cinnamon for winter.

  • Rotate artwork or decorative items to match the mood of the season.

  • Bring in natural elements like fresh flowers in spring or pinecones and branches in winter.

This approach keeps your home feeling fresh and inviting all year.

Step-by-Step Guide to a True Deep Clean

A deep clean goes beyond regular tidying. It targets hidden dust, grime, and clutter that accumulate over time. Here’s a step-by-step plan to get your home thoroughly clean:

1. Gather Your Cleaning Supplies

Before you start, collect all necessary products. Here are some essentials available on Amazon:

  • Microfiber cleaning cloths for dusting and wiping surfaces.

  • All-purpose cleaner for counters, shelves, and appliances.

  • Glass cleaner for mirrors and windows.

  • Vacuum cleaner with attachments for floors, upholstery, and hard-to-reach spots.

  • Mop and bucket for hard floors.

  • Scrubbing brushes for tough stains.

  • Storage boxes and labels for organising items.

2. Declutter Each Room

Remove items that don’t belong or are no longer needed. Sort into keep, donate, or discard piles. Decluttering makes cleaning easier and creates more space.

3. Dust and Wipe Surfaces

Start from the top down. Dust ceiling fans, light fixtures, shelves, and furniture. Wipe down surfaces with appropriate cleaners.

4. Clean Windows and Mirrors

Use a glass cleaner and microfiber cloth to remove streaks and grime. Use a hand-held steamer to get into joins and crevasses that a cloth can't clean properly.

5. Deep Clean Floors

Vacuum carpets thoroughly, including under furniture. Mop hard floors with a suitable cleaner.

6. Clean Upholstery and Curtains

Vacuum sofas and chairs. If possible, wash or dry clean curtains or use the hand-held steam cleaner attachment for upholstery and fabric.

7. Organise Storage Spaces

Sort through closets, drawers, and cupboards. Use storage boxes and labels to keep things tidy.

8. Final Touches

Replace air filters, check smoke detectors, and add fresh scents with candles or diffusers.

Your deep cleaning tips are great. I usually do a spring clean but never check the smoke detectors or Co2 monitors. This is a really useful idea. Great work!👍
